About Us

Ron and Kim Johnson started the Johnson Cattle Company, a family endeavor, in 2002. Starting with eight head of cattle they set out on their way to grow the best Grass Fed Texas Longhorns naturally. Now, hundreds of head later they continue to improve their herd by including strong registered Texas Longhorn blood lines from coast to coast. This constant and never ending improvement has led them to the herds they have today.

Being health conscience consumers with six children of their own they knew of the importance of quality food, open air and good nutrition. Not wanting to be just a "designer beef" supplier, catering to only a few, they continued to strive to grow the best product on open range clean grass fields not treated with harmful chemicals.

Through the use of rotational grazing practices and an all grass winter feeding program they have built a herd that not just survives but rather thrives.

Now years later with two ranches they are selling registered starter calves and cows to new breeders, stock to various horsemen and cattlemen for training purposes, renting bulls to other cattle breeders to improve their breeding programs and bringing a "pure product" to market. Their practices have been met with much success.

The Johnson Cattle Company, a family business and a business that is loved. "Love what you do and do what you love, well, as things worth doing are worth doing well".

                                                                        AVOID EXPENSIVE PURCHASES

The most expensive meats are purchased at hugh grocery stores. This habit of purchasing is attractive and convenient. Customer enhancements include small sizes, flashy promotions, special light effects and bright colorful packaging. Pricey meats are promoted in "bite size" packages. Store displays often provide products from dozens of countries, all with less sanitary production than the USA. Even with Country of Origin laws it is still difficult to identify the source. Some labels say, "Product of Mexico, Canada and USA". Aground beef product could mix lean frozen trim from Australia, 40% fat could be added from Canadian feed lot steers and include a pinch of USA product. That is how it can, and does work.

All JCC meat products are raised and grown naturally in Minnesota. No hormones, steroids, growth implants or unnecessary antibiotics are used. Cattle are free range grazed, drink clean water and eat abundant native grasses. Simple, old fashioned, health and good.

Health Note - Remember that when you are shopping for beef (else where) if the label say "Regular" that means not less than 70% lean (or 30% Fat!) , "Lean" means not less than 80% lean (or 20% Fat!), and if the label says "Extra Lean" that means not less than 85% lean. Here at Johnson Cattle Company we exceed "Extra Lean" and give you more.
